Butterfly on Hypocracy and Literaty Agents.

Well, I said I’d never do it again. I said that Smashwords was enough for me, but it was all a lie. It’s been one year since I last queried an agent and I know because I found the query and wept over it. Today, I got a message from the universe telling me to query one more agent, the one agent I’ve been looking at and reading her blog for the past year. She seemed like the only agent out there who was not at all ambiguous about what she wanted in a client. I don’t know how many agents I’ve seen that just have the word romance jotted down in a big ole list of things they represent. Humm, that doesn’t seem like the place I should be querying.
AGENTS: PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC! YOU DRIVE A ME CRAZY-ER”
I’m still not officially “querying,” but I had to go with my intuition and give this nice lady a try, so I poured my heart out in this great letter that I wrote in 2 hours, and I am now awaiting rejection (WHY I DO THIS TO MYSELF?). All I know is for me, the days of mass querying are over. Mass querying is not very personal, and perhaps overly professional, and do you even remember who all you queried when you were busy cutting and pasting names in the inbox?
Nope!
My new plan is when I see someone who has what I need in a representative, I will write a personal letter giving them all the reasons to love me and my offspring- I mean book. At least then they know you’re a human being and not a borg mass-emailing at random. Hint: you are dealing with human people here. Treat them as such and you might get a bite (and that was a terrible zombie reference).
Until the next perfect agent comes along, there’s always Chuck Sambuchino’s literary agents blog. Luv that guy.
